CULTURAL

DRAMA:

In Dramatic Arts, we study how human experiences are represented and
performed for an audience. We start off by asking the fundamental question:
‘What is drama?’ You will learn some basic skills of dramatic communication,
you will learn about the body and voice of the actor as the primary instruments
for communication, and you will begin to use some basic vocabulary to do with
drama and theatre practice.

Additionally, you will engage in game-playing, learn to concentrate, to work
together with others, to solve problems and build confidence in yourself. You
will gain knowledge of the stage, script, theatre production, live performance,
and film through practice. Extra-curricular activities include rehearsals,
excursions, school productions and shows (on-site and off-site).

DANCE:

The Dance Department has been one of the essential arts at Alexander Sinton for a long time .It was established more than 30 years ago.  The Department is now run by Mrs Anastasia Arendse , who was also a learner and dancer at the school.

Alexander Sinton has participated in many events during the years, such as Baxter Festivals , Borne Frees , High School Jam ,  Project021 , and Sinton’s very own Arts on the Lawn , to name a few . Dancers at Alexander Sinton are free to express themselves however they please in the dance class . We are provided the opportunity to experience dance in many forms and from other choreographers who play a role in our growth as dancers.

Alexander Sinton offers Dance Studies as one of the FET subject choices.

Dance Studies also forms part of the Creative Arts stream at the GET level where learners are taught various dance styles.

The dance genre taught at FET is Contemporary Dance. The time allocated to Dance Studies is 4 hours per week.

Learners are taught:

 History of Dance

Anatomy and Health Care

Practicals

The subject develops both mind and body and prepares you for a range of careers in the Arts

(Dance, Choreographer, Director, Teacher, Writer,  Arts Production, Fitness Expert and Physiotherapist).

Dance requires discipline, passion, practice and commitment for the subject.

ART:

Visual Arts

These are the arts that meet the eye and evoke an emotion through an expression of skill and imagination.

They include the most ancient forms, such as painting and drawing, and the arts that were born thanks to the development of technology,

like sculpture, printmaking, photography, and installation art, the latter a combination of multiple creative expressions.

Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, different eras in art history have had their own principles to define beauty.

DESIGN:

Design prepares learners for a career in Graphic design, Web design, Interior design, Fashion design, Architecture and many more.

Design is all around us. Everything was designed by a designer.

Design has a function such as how a poster has a message or how a product has a purpose.

Designers shape the world with their innovative ideas and creativity. Their concepts can be over the top.

Design affects all aspects of your life, i.e the clothes you wear, the products you buy, the media and adverts that influence you, the movies and videos that facinate you.

Design is our PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE.

MUSIC:

To study music, one has to be passionate about one's instrument because the practical component plays a vital role in the study of music.

Music as a subject is divided into four disciplines:

(i) Practical: vocal or instrumental performance

(ii) Theory: the study of concepts involved in creating music

(iii) General music knowledge and music history

(iv) Aural: training one's musical ear

"If music be the food of love, play on..."
